Play Fireboy and Watergirl 6: Fairy Tales, use magic fairies to solve puzzles, collect diamonds, activate switches, and guide both heroes through 30 levels.
Fireboy and Watergirl 6: Fairy Tales is a cooperative puzzle-platform game where you control Fireboy, Watergirl, and magical fairies through a new series of temple challenges. Fireboy and Watergirl still need to collect diamonds, avoid hazards, activate mechanisms, and reach their matching exit doors, but Fairy Tales adds a new layer: colored fairies can be moved independently with the mouse to operate lamps, levers, and other puzzle elements. The official game includes 30 levels that can be completed alone or with another player.
The major addition in Fairy Tales is the fairy system. Previous Fireboy and Watergirl games mainly focus on coordinating the two elemental characters, but this installment gives you additional helpers that can move around the level without forcing either hero to leave their current position.
Colored fairies can activate lamps and interact with mechanisms matching their color. White fairies are particularly useful because they can activate lamps of any color. Since the fairies are controlled separately from Fireboy and Watergirl, many puzzles require you to think about three different types of movement at once.
The official description also emphasizes completing puzzles efficiently, collecting the diamonds, and beating the level times.
| Character or Tool | Controls | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Fireboy | Left / Right Arrow Keys | Move left and right |
| Fireboy | Up Arrow | Jump |
| Watergirl | A / D | Move left and right |
| Watergirl | W | Jump |
| Fairies | Mouse | Click and drag the fairies through the level |
The separation between keyboard and mouse controls is important. Fireboy and Watergirl continue using the familiar keyboard layout, while the fairies introduce a third control method that can be used without moving either character.
Fairies are the defining puzzle mechanic in this sixth game. Instead of standing on every switch with Fireboy or Watergirl, you can drag a fairy toward certain mechanisms and activate them remotely.
Colored fairies interact with lamps that correspond to their color. Before dragging one across the room, check which mechanism needs activation and identify the fairy that matches it.
This can save Fireboy and Watergirl from taking unnecessary routes. A fairy may be able to reach a mechanism while both heroes remain positioned beside a platform or door that depends on it.
White fairies are more versatile. According to the game instructions, they can activate lamps of any color. That makes them valuable in puzzles containing several colored mechanisms or when another fairy cannot easily reach the required position.
The new fairy mechanic does not replace the elemental rules of the series. Fireboy and Watergirl still need different routes through parts of the temple.
Fireboy can safely interact with his own fire element but cannot enter Watergirl's water. Watergirl can move through water but must avoid Fireboy's element. This forces you to check which hero can safely cross a section before moving either character.
A route that appears straightforward for Fireboy may be impossible for Watergirl, so reaching the end often involves solving two connected paths rather than moving both characters together through the same corridor.
The official game description specifically identifies levers and buttons as important tools throughout the 30 levels. These mechanisms can alter the level and create routes needed by Fireboy or Watergirl.
Before activating a mechanism, check what it controls. Opening a path for one hero may close another route or require the second character to move before the mechanism changes again.
The fairies add another possibility because some mechanisms no longer require Fireboy or Watergirl to physically reach them. This lets the game build puzzles where the characters, switches, and fairy positions all need to be coordinated.
Fireboy and Watergirl 6 can be played alone or cooperatively. The official versions support single-player and shared local co-op play.
Solo play means managing both keyboard layouts plus the mouse-controlled fairies. On difficult sections, it is usually easier to position one hero somewhere safe, solve the next part with the other character or a fairy, and then return to the first hero.
Two players can divide Fireboy and Watergirl between them while still coordinating the fairy interactions. Communication becomes useful when one player needs a lever activated before jumping onto a platform or crossing a newly opened route.
If a fairy can activate the mechanism you need, use it first. Moving Fireboy or Watergirl into a difficult position before checking the fairy solution can create unnecessary backtracking.
Do not drag every fairy toward every lamp. Identify matching colors before acting. Use a white fairy when its ability to activate any color provides a clear advantage.
During solo play, avoid controlling all elements of the puzzle simultaneously unless necessary. Leave one character on a stable platform while you focus on the second hero and the fairies.
Activate a lever and observe the level before immediately moving. Understanding which door, platform, or passage changed makes it easier to determine which character should act next.
Fireboy and Watergirl need to explore the temple for diamonds as they work toward the doors. If a diamond requires a detour, collect it before putting both heroes into final exit positions.
In Fairy Tales, you are not planning only around Fireboy and Watergirl. The position of each fairy can also determine whether a mechanism remains available. Check the heroes and the relevant fairy before committing to a movement sequence.
The official Fireboy & Watergirl: Fairy Tales release includes 30 levels. These stages combine the established cooperative platforming formula with the new fairy mechanic, buttons, levers, diamond collection, and timed objectives.
As the puzzles become more complicated, the difficulty comes from coordinating more elements rather than learning a completely different movement system. The controls remain accessible, but deciding when to move Fireboy, Watergirl, or a fairy becomes increasingly important.

Fireboy and Watergirl 6: Fairy Tales expands the series' cooperative puzzle design by giving you a third tool to manage. Fireboy and Watergirl still need different routes through elemental hazards, but magical fairies can now activate mechanisms without moving either hero. Learning when to control a character and when to solve the problem with a fairy is the key to clearing all 30 levels, collecting the diamonds, and reaching both exit doors.
